In Favre We Trust…

I don’t need to write anything other than go read this post on KSK. Here is just a little bit of it:

The amendment requires all working quarterbacks in the United States to be more rugged and rascally, with a twinkle in each eye and a song in their hearts. It also establishes throwing a shovel pass across the field off your back foot to an opposing linebacker as the national “football move.” Furthermore, it designates Kiln, Miss. as a National Historic Landmark for Quarterbacking, rather than for general squalor.
KSK Favre Amendment

On a more serious note, turns out Congress really is going to honor #4, they’ve passed House Resolution 697.

Falcons Want Their Money

The arbitrator ruled that Mr. Vick has to return $19.97 million of the money that the Atlanta Falcons have paid him. The NFLPA immediately appealed the decision.

I don’t think they are going to win the appeal and it comes down to one thing… when Mr. Vick signed the contract he was already participating in the illegal activities that he has admitted to and been convicted of and the contract said he had to abide by the NFL Code of Conduct which he was already violating. He was in violation of the contract before he signed it.

I don’t think he’ll when the appeal and in my opinion, he shouldn’t.

And Now Back to Our Regular Broadcast Schedule…

OK, so my schedule is anything but regular… The computer is back together with a new hard drive, new operating system and a better backup plan… still re-organizing some stuff from before the crash, but basically, things are up and running again. Still trying to decide how to organize and backup the 100’s of gigabytes of ski team video that I have… Still bummed about some of the stuff I lost (skiing log from the last few years and good crash videos to mention just a couple things that other people might care about.)

I’ll be posting an update soon with pictures from the couple shows we did with the Must-Skis and video of some heli’s I tried up there last week.

For those that need a sport or comedy fix, check out the links on the right in the “What I’m Reading” section… They’re mainly random things from around the web that I found entertaining. One guy in the UK is trying to patent a hydrofoil wakeboard… they’ve been towed behind boats for a long time in the form of an Air-Chair or Sky Ski and now he’s trying to patent it just because now they are standing on it. They’ve even taken the Air Chair & Sky Ski and chopped off the chair to surf on the things (Laird Hamilton been doing this for years)… he isn’t doing anything new.

There’s also a post titled Rankings and Other Stuff about the UW game in Vegas this past weekend. Seems they held the world’s largest tailgate party and the Wisconsinites drank a lot of beer. The Vegas Notes post is pretty good too.

The water is still high in Madison, although they did open up Lakes Mendota and Kegonsa to just a 500 foot no wake limit, I feel it is still hard to go out in the middle of the lake, and with good conscious, start making a big fat wake to go surfing with while people are still dealing with high water in the yards. So I’ll still be road-tripping for a while. [Z- I’m looking for a place to jump on Wednesday night. -W] In case you didn’t notice, it rained today for pretty much the whole day. Not helping my cause.

It is late and it time for some shut-eye. Watch for a new post with pictures and video soon.

Lindsay Lohan Drunk Driving Awareness Night

This is too funny and a recipe for disaster… A minor league baseball team is having a Linday Lohan Drunk Driving Awareness Night that happens to coincide with their regular Thirst Thursday promotion. They have a car wreck on display from a drunk driving accident, traffic enforcement with the blood alcohol testing van and half price beers.

Which of these is not like the other?

And the Great Thaw of 2007 is Upon Us…

The weather has been warmer lately. Highs pushing 70 earlier this week, although we did have snow flurries last night. Today and tomorrow were/are going to be a bit cooler, but still highs above freezing. The snow is pretty much gone from most of the yards, just the piles from plows remain, but they should be gone soon as well.

As I wait for the lake to open up and water ski season to start, I’m watching way too much basketball, keeping tabs on the Badger Hockey team (up 3-nothing over Michigan Tech) and finishing up my Think Tank presentations for this weekend.

Many of you are probably wondering what is Think Tank. Well, it is a conference put on by the Wisconsin Water Skiing Federation about water skiing. Somehow, it is the largest water skiing conference in the world. I guess that just goes to show that when we can’t go skiing up here, we still think about skiing. In an effort to revitalize the conference, this year it is sporting a new location. It has moved to the Chula Vista Resort in the Wisconsin Dells. It’ll be my first time going to a water park since high school. I guess I’m too busy water skiing in the summer to take time off to go down water slides.

Meanwhile, each day on the drive home from work, I look out at Lake Monona from the beltline just waiting to glimpse some open water. Haven’t seen any yet, but tomorrow, I’ll do a drive by the landing to get an up close look at the lake. I’m still hoping to hit the water by the 26 so I just have a little more than a week left to make that deadline.

Go Badgers!!!

Granted the Badger Men’s B-Ball team is getting lots of press, but there are still other Badger team’s alive in the post season and we don’t want to forget about them. It is a very busy week in Badger athletics.

Thursday night the men’s hockey team takes the ice in the WCHA Final Five. Friday night the women’s hockey team square of in the Women’s Frozen Four and the women’s basketball team is alive in the WNIT. Some wrestlers and swimmers are heading to the National Championships as well. Meanwhile, the Badger Men’s Track team brought home 1 National Championship already this year. Hopefully, we’ll bring home some more hardware to match that. The likelyhood of that happening in these team sports? I’ll rank them this way in most likely to happen to least likely to happen… Women’s Hockey, Men’s Basketball, Men’s Hockey.

Anyway… on to the WCHA Final Five sponsored by a frozen pizza company. Love that logo.

Mascot Madness

Saw this post over at Chicks Dig the Long Ball and it makes for an interesting read.

However, I’m confused by one grouping…

Somehow they put the Badgers into the Aquatic Animal group. Not saying Badgers are anti-aquatic, but don’t they live in holes in the ground? That, and I think they require water just as much as the other average mammal. The origin of the term “Wisconsin Badgers” doesn’t even have anything to do with the prevalence of the Mustelidae in the region. It has more to do with the fact that Badgers live in holes in the ground.

You’d think before someone would write the definitive grouping of mascots, they do some research or admit they don’t know.

Questioning the Rankings?

I’m a Badger fan, that will sway my opinion, but here are my thoughts…

From the moment the #1 ranking was announced, people questioned it. National media & the net questioned it. Do they deserve it? During the game broadcast on Tuesday, they questioned it from the get-go.

And then they lost to Michigan State. Shortest #1 ranking. They received it Monday and lost it Tuesday.

After the lost, even more people questioned the ranking then. Did they ever deserve it? Was it a mistake?

Michigan State has been on the upswing and played there way into the field of 65 on Tuesday. Everybody is healthy again and I think Drew Neitzel could have thrown the ball at the Badger’s basket, have it bounce off the room and then have it go into the Spartan basket. Dude couldn’t miss. It was like watching the old Nintendo basketball game where a player could catch on fire and shoot from anywhere and make it. That was Neitzel.

And then MSU played some D too! Badgers got away from their game and it cost them. Throwing up 3-point bricks isn’t the way to catch up. Then the Badger’s made some very silly/stupid turnovers. Way too much traveling.

Everyone is saying the Badgers are going to fall in the rankings. Nobody questioned OSU’s ranking as the other #1.

What happens if the Badgers beat OSU on Sunday? At OSU.

Pass-Pass-Shoot

Back in the summer of 2005, I had a run in with Kyle Klubertanz. He was/is (not sure) dating a girl I skied with on Mad-City. We were in a bar up north playing Bubble Hockey. After the game, which ended in a tie, we got to talking about hockey a little. I didn’t try to coach him, tell him what to do specifically, he’s obviously a very good hockey player. I just mentioned one thing to him in particular. On their power play (from the 04-05 season) I told him how they were passing too much. Nobody was taking a shot. Also, the passes weren’t quick. It was pass, dribble, pass, dribble, pass, dribble… I mentioned that they needed to pass-pass-shoot. I don’t know if it was me mentioning this to them or just that their coaches came to the same conclusion I did but their power play was noticeable different in 05-06. They had a pretty good season too.

Now back to tonight & Pass-Pass-Shoot…

The Badgers did that twice tonight and it resulted in goals. Two of them to be exact. In hockey, you see a lot of passing. On power plays, it is instrumental. But to score goals, the passes need to be crisp and accurate. And quick. By quick I mean the time between receiving the pass and passing or shooting the puck is very brief. And quick. The puck just needs to be on the blade of the stick for an instant.

Tonight, the Badgers did it perfectly. Pass-Pass-Shoot. The plays were that were quick.

The first one was a three on two rush towards Minnesota’s goal. The Badger in the middle made a pass to the wing on his left and then hesitated for just a moment to hold up in front of the goal. The goalie moves to play the wingman with the puck who instantly passes it back to the guy in the center. The center gets the puck back and taps into the net. Pass-Pass-Shoot-Goal!!!

The second one was just as pretty. Badgers on a power play. Guy at the top of the keep passes it to the guy low by left pipe. Bang & goal!!!

Here’s a highlight video over on UWBadgers.com that shows the two scoring sequences.

Crisp, accurate, quick passes and quick release shots meant two goals for the Badgers tonight. Not big slap shots, nothing really hard or nasty. Just quick shots.

Pass-Pass-Shoot-Goal.

Those two goals ended Minnesota’s 22 game unbeaten streak. It was a big win for the Badgers. 2-1 over the Gophers. Here’s the official recap.
