I’m Number 1

At least according to Google when you search for “who is the badger who wanted cheese curds when he won the lottery”. Don’t believe me, click here. If you want to know why I know this, click here (not sure how long this link will work).

I previously mentioned that I thought it was rather funny when some Badger said it on the video board during a prepared video clip at the Badger game. At the time, I didn’t know who it was.

Well, I decided to see if I could figure it out. I’m not completely sure, but I think it is #75 Andy Kemp that said he’d buy cheese curds if he run the lottery. Why do I think it is him? Well, he is an offensive lineman, so he is the right size (6-6, 316), he looks like the person that said it (same face, short hair) and he’s from Wisconsin (you’d have to be to say it with that much enthusiasm– Menesha, WI to be exact.)

I tracked this down by looking at the Badger Media Guide.

More Random News

Here is some more news that you may not have heard that is cluttering up my inbox.

We May Not be that Special. Turns out Earth-like planets may be a lot more common than we first thought. So if there are more Earth-like planets, maybe there is more Earth-like life?

Schwarzenegger puts foot in mouth. Apparently he was talking a California State Assemblywoman. Some people just like to make too out of some stories.

The Hobbit. Looks like The Hobbit, the prequel to the Lord of the Rings is going to get made. The are trying to get Peter Jackson to direct. In other news, they are going to make a Terminator 4…

Hell Frozen Over? Today, it looks like CBS finally realized that when you start a game after 3pm, it isn’t going to be done by 6pm. For years now they have been trying to start 60 Minutes at 6pm. It would hardly ever happen when they had a 3pm game. Never happened when they had a 315pm game. Well tonight, they have 60 Minutes schedule to start at 630pm. Looks like they won’t mess up there schedule for the whole night. Here’s hoping they do this for the rest of the year.

A Pulse. Finally, it looks like the Packers may have a pulse this year. Didn’t win, but moved the ball. Granted it was against the Saints, but who knows.

Did they mean to rip off the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy?

Bistromathematics. The Onion continues to impress with the news reporting skills. In one of their most recent stories they talk of scientists successfully splitting their bill. This story was reminded me of a portion of Life, the Universe and Everything (a book in the Hitchhiker’s trilogy) where their only way to power some portion of the space ship was to use “bistromathematics” or something like that. So besides just the story being very entertaining on its own accord, whether or not they intended, the unreferenced story makes it even better for me.

Oooooh yeaaahhhh!I wish the Macho Man Randy Savage would just go away.

Aliens gave us Tivo? Seems like we have uncovered the origin of Tivo and its ubiquitous sound. It came from space. Now I use a ReplayTV (much like a Tivo, just better) but this is just too interesting to not pass along.

Repeat Offender Serving 7 to 10 Minutes

Yet more proof that The Onion is America’s Finest News Source… “In this corner, you have plenty of time to think.” And there is more that is even better…

In other news, apparently, the next time I make my way to Boston, MA in the summer, I should be able to find some people to ski with. Seems there is a group of dedicated water skiers that formed the Dorchester Bay Club that like to ski in Boston Harbor on Wednesday night. And no, I’m not making this up. You can read the story here. I personally love the photo with the story. Dude looks like he is struggling to stay up on two. Love the enthusiasm to go skiing there.

I’ve found the TV that I want to have at my house. Notice I didn’t say in my house. I don’t think it’d fit. This TV measures 134 by 55. And those measurements are in feet. I could set it up in my backyard, install a new giant picture window to watch it through. Pretty sweet. It is HD too! Comes with a stadium quality sound system and goes for a mere $8 million. Best part is, my yard is wide enough to hold it in the back. Not sure I could afford the electricity to run it though.

Finally, now that the Little League World Series is over and the NFL hasn’t quite started yet, if you are looking for something sports related to watch, check out the US Open. Yes, that is tennis I’m talking about. Looking for some reasons to watch, go here. You just might find yourself interested. In other news, I watched a total of about 5 innings of the LLWS and 1 quarter of preseason football (all of the football tonight). I’m still too busy skiing and partaking in sports to sit back and watch them.

Explantion: Impossible

You may remember one of my old rants about the Mission Impossible movies and how I feel that MI:2 is one of the worst movies of all time. Now 3 was better, but still completely over the edge in terms of plausibility. Now I’d like to send some props out to my favorite football columnists again, Gregg Easterbrook. Roughly half way down his column for this week he talks about his thoughts (and his sons) about the most recent MI movie and the others. In summary, he agrees with me (although I did find MI:3 entertaining). This is in addition to his regular coverage of all things football. Check his article out and watch for it every Tuesday.

Breaking News: Microsoft Patents Ones and Zeroes

News Summary:

As a result of the Microsoft patent, many other companies have begun radically revising their product lines: Database manufacturer Oracle has embarked on a crash program to develop “an abacus for the next millennium.” Novell, whose communications and networking systems are also subject to Microsoft licensing fees, is working with top animal trainers on a chimpanzee-based message-transmission system. Hewlett-Packard is developing a revolutionary new steam-powered printer.

Ok, so maybe it isn’t breaking news anymore (it’s from 1998) or really not even news (it’s from The Onion) but it was damn funny at the time. Hope you enjoy it.

We Have a Caption Winner…

Saw this over at Pointless Waste of Time… They have a caption contest for the photo of the day. The caption winners are usually pretty funny, but this one had some great captions… I especially like the caption’s by Raoul and a1kemi.

I’d still like to see them ramp something [6.14.06]

As of the writing of this, we had a tie for yesterday’s craption winner:

The enemy had to admit, it was the best surrender they’d ever seen.
-by Caption Man

‘Crotchburn Carlos’ had the special role of applying the brakes.
-by Raoul

Not bad. Though I’ve always had a special affection for captioners who pick out something way in the blurry background of the picture and make that the basis of the joke:

Sergent Punjabi turned to take a piss on the fence. Nothing interesting ever happened on road patrol. -by a1kemi

Gamil Ads…

Every once in a while the Google Ads I see in gmail are just a little bit funny. Today, while reading my Onion Daily Dispatch, there was a stock tip with the following in it “Analysts are bullish on this maker of fun, edible wigs for children undergoing chemotherapy following reports of a radiation leak at New York’s Indian Point nuclear facility.” The ads on the side of my email window were for:

“Chernobyl! Do we really want more nuclear power plants?” which was an ad for Greenpeace.

Another ad to find out all about nuclear reactors.

Finally, a spot where I could find out all about the leading provider of coal.

Some rather serious and interesting ads to put next to the Onion news. This provided a nice little bit of entertainment today.

Gmail Ads

I recently switched to Gmail for my primary email. Seems to work pretty good, but I’ve found the ads that show up on the right side can be entertaining. Today I was looking at an invite from a friend. The directions said to take the Fish Hatchery Rd exit. I looked at the ads along the side and they were for fishing trips and fish image lights (not even sure what they are). This isn’t the first ad that has made me chuckle, but was by far the most funny.
