Employee of the Month
I caught this movie as I was killing some time. I had seen some reviews of this movie earlier in the day and some seemed to thing that this movie was going to be a serious look into the lives of people that work in superstores. I didn’t expect anything like that. I expected a fairly bad movie that I hoped would be funny. Nothing more, nothing less.
The premise of the movie is that the store has someone that has one the Employee of the Month award for the past 17 months. If he made it to 18 months, it would be a new record. The only people in the store that like this employee are the management, the customers, and his sidekick name Jorge (who is a lot like the character Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite.) The store also has a slacker who basically doesn’t want management to know he exists, because if they did, they might fire him.
Well the store than receives a new transfer played by Jessica Simpson and the employee of the month and the slacker compete for her attention. The people that expect something should have been clued of by Jessica being in this movie.
The movie is pretty horrible (bad acting, weak plot, etc), but I laughed the whole way through it. Probably not going to watch it again.
It did make me wonder if things like this (reward stickers, secret hiding places amongst the pallets, and checkout speed competitions) really do take place in stores? Never having worked in a “superstore” I’ll never know.
Wait for this movie to make its way on to TV in a few months.
School for Scoundrels
Caught School for Scounrels last weekend at the theatre. This movie stars John Heder in his first major role since Napoleon Dynamite and Billy Bob Thorton.
It wasn’t anything to write home about, but I left the theatre entertained. Pretty simplistic movie about a 20-something named Roger (Heder) that is participating in the Big Brother program and the little kids who want a big brother don’t want him.
That’s where Dr. P (Thorton) comes in. He teaches guys like this to be the lion.Well, Roger takes the what Dr. P teaches very well and the teacher decides to do something about it.
Probably not worth going to the theatre and spending nearly $10 a ticket, but worth a rental.
Summertime
I’ve heard this song by Kenny Chesney for the past 2 1/2 hours straight tonight. Good song, but I don’t want to hear it again anytime soon.
On a related note, the State Tournament DVD I was working for Mad-City is currently being burned by my PC. Of the locals that read this, anyone want to stop by and proof watch this with me before I start burning copies for the team? Let me know. You know how to get a hold of me…
I Guess I’m a Soothsayer
So on Tuesday, I ranted about the media calling for Favre to be dismissed or traded and also called out Ahmad Carroll and asked that he be cut for his exceptionally bad performance on Monday night. Then it happened and I decided to give myself a hand.
I guess the guys over at The Big Lead (unlike ESPN, I’ll get my reference right) found my little site and gave me a shout out. I’ll take it as a complement. For 50 or so visitors that stopped by yesterday because of their reference, ya’ll come back now real soon.

Did I Call This or What?
So earlier today, to help get over my disgust with sports writers everywhere blaming Favre for the Packers demise, I called out Ahmad Carroll. I also called for him to disappear.
I guess the Packers’ GM must have read my blog today. Turns out, he made him disappear today!!!
(Excuse me while I do my dance of joy…)
At this point, the only people not happy about this are Rams who have to play the Packers next. The rest of the teams on the Packers schedule probably aren’t happy either. These teams fans are probably disappointed as well. But, I don’t care!
I do give the man props for admitting he sucked on national TV.
That takes guts. For that, Salute… Now, see ya latter!
To All the Sports Writers…
I know you are secretly reading my blog to get the inside scoop on water skiing, show skiing, barefooting and this phenomenon called the Mad-City Ski Team…
Can you please stop blaming Favre every time the Packers lose a game proclaiming that he needs to fade away? That he is too old, that he’s lost it. Yes he made a few mistakes last night (one bad throw over the middle sticks out).
Surprisingly, some of these same writers say he should force a trade to a better team so he can take them to a Superbowl. Which is it? Is he bad and needs to quit or is he good enough to take a better team to the biggest of games? Make up your mind.
But can you please start calling for Ahmad Carroll’s head? We might as well play with 10 guys on defenses. It is one thing to get burned. It is another to get flagged for a penalty. It is even worse to get burned and flagged for a penalty. Carroll doesn’t need to fade away. He needs to disappear… now. I think everyone but the Packer’s next opponents can agree about this. They want to see Carroll on the field… they love playing against him.
I can just hear the conversations… “Carroll is in the game. We’re going deep. Whoever Carroll lines up against, just go deep. I’ll throw the ball to you no matter what. Either you’ll be wide open or he’ll get flagged. Either way well be down field.”
Please, please, please cut him now!
Update: He will at least own up the fact that he sucked badly last night. Seems like a nice guy.
Dam to Dam Barefoot Race
Thinking about doing this… looks fun! Just a month away. Need to decide quickly.
Wisconsin Weather
So with forecast calling for highs in the mid-80 in October, I planned to hit the water with T-Bell & John today. Watching the weather throughout today, I could see some pretty big storms moving north of Portage and South of Janesville, both about 30 or so minutes away in their respective directions.
As 5pm rolls around, the weather is still warm, somewhat clear, and basically good skiing conditions. Get to the lake at 515 and am getting the boat ready and feel that it is a little cooler already. Get out on the water and know for sure it has cooled off.
We get a quick set in as the weather slowly grows darker to the east, but looks somewhat west. I hop in to take my last run and do a quick run one way and see some lightning way off to the east. Figure I might as well take one last run back to the bridge and we head off to the west, turn towards the north, where it is now darker, and finally turn back to the east towards the bridge (we took the long way to the bridge) and now I’m see lots of lighting, notice the trees are now indicating a strong wind out of the north when it was out of the south minutes before. I let go as we get to the bridge, they come back, quickly, and pick me up. I hop in and we high tail it out of there.
We get out to the main lake and it is getting quickly worse. We make a beeline for the dock and get the boat out without incident.
We did notice the UW Ski Team was still skiing as we headed to the landing… we decided to be nice and hooked up their truck and trailer and helped them get their boat out when they finally came to the landing. BTW, the UW team qualified for Nationals… Congrats!!!
Sorry, no pics from tonight… little too gloomy. Still had good skiing though!
