Fox Sports BCS Playoff Conspiracy

If you went to bed when Boise threw the pick returned for TD with a minute left in the game, you missed one hell of an ending. Doubtless, there are 1000’s of places to read a better recap than I can write. So if you’re looking for that, you came to the wrong place. If you’re lucky, you may be able to see it on ESPN Classic later this week if they’re willing to pony up the cash to re-air it. It is definately an instant classic. One of the few games I think is worthy of that label.

On the other hand, I’m putting this out their for the world to see. I believe Fox, whose commentators have been fueling the fire about a NCAA Football playoff (especially during the end of the Boise game tonight) has a master plan and decided to go out on a limb and pay oodles of money for the BCS rights so they can throw their weight (which is the millions of dollars they paid) and get it turned into a proper playoff. Maybe just an 8 team, maybe 16 if we are really lucky, I don’t really know. I just see the controversy out there and Fox just continues to pour fuel on the fire.

I don’t care what they do with all the other bowls, just take the top 8 or 16 teams and make ’em play until they determine a champion the old fashion way, on the field! And not by writers and coaches and experts and computers deciding team A gets to play team B for the championship and team C is left out because B is better than team C because of some goofy stat or subconscious inclination because of the voter’s region or teams your just more familiar with. Let them play. The teams left out of the playoff can continue to play in their exhibition games in random bowls number 1 through 50.

Oh and Chris Myers just popped the question for the Boise State running back before he had a chance to ask his girlfriend himself.

Disclaimer, I’m putting this out there with no inside knowledge or any relationship to Fox or any other sports broadcasting entity other than I watch their broadcasts way too much.

Thursday Night Football

Two undefeated teams! Prime time! National Championship impact!

How can you not be rooting for Rutgers?

Tied at 25 with 10 minutes to go vs the #3 team (Louisville) in the nation with the power to really mess up the BCS!!!

(That last part is the most important, but it is nice to cheer for the underdog.)

Is Favre Still Washed Up?

I don’t think so. First rushing TD in a very long time (12 years?), first Lambeau Leap ever, efficient passing, 1 yard bullet for a TD. Doubled up on Leinert’s passing rating.

To complement Favre, 2 100 yard rushers. Packers put together a pretty complete game. O-Line looked good.

Mr. Shanoff, I know you hate Favre, but he still has it and I’m waiting for you to admit it. Yes, he isn’t the same as in his glory days, but guess what… he still has it.

Badger Hockey has Started!

The 2006 Badger hockey season is already underway… Out on UWBadgers.com, the video that was played during the National Championship banner cermony on October 13 is available. I recommend you go check it out. There are some pretty sweet hockey highlights in there.

Badger Hockey Videos – look for the “Mens Hockey Banner Drop” video posted on 10/13/06 and click on the Play button next to it.

I believe it is set to Duel of the Fates from Star Wars Episode 1.

I Guess I’m a Soothsayer

So on Tuesday, I ranted about the media calling for Favre to be dismissed or traded and also called out Ahmad Carroll and asked that he be cut for his exceptionally bad performance on Monday night. Then it happened and I decided to give myself a hand.

I guess the guys over at The Big Lead (unlike ESPN, I’ll get my reference right) found my little site and gave me a shout out. I’ll take it as a complement. For 50 or so visitors that stopped by yesterday because of their reference, ya’ll come back now real soon.

Did I Call This or What?

So earlier today, to help get over my disgust with sports writers everywhere blaming Favre for the Packers demise, I called out Ahmad Carroll. I also called for him to disappear.

I guess the Packers’ GM must have read my blog today. Turns out, he made him disappear today!!!

(Excuse me while I do my dance of joy…)

At this point, the only people not happy about this are Rams who have to play the Packers next. The rest of the teams on the Packers schedule probably aren’t happy either. These teams fans are probably disappointed as well. But, I don’t care!

I do give the man props for admitting he sucked on national TV.

That takes guts. For that, Salute… Now, see ya latter!

To All the Sports Writers…

I know you are secretly reading my blog to get the inside scoop on water skiing, show skiing, barefooting and this phenomenon called the Mad-City Ski Team…

Can you please stop blaming Favre every time the Packers lose a game proclaiming that he needs to fade away? That he is too old, that he’s lost it. Yes he made a few mistakes last night (one bad throw over the middle sticks out).

Surprisingly, some of these same writers say he should force a trade to a better team so he can take them to a Superbowl. Which is it? Is he bad and needs to quit or is he good enough to take a better team to the biggest of games? Make up your mind.

But can you please start calling for Ahmad Carroll’s head? We might as well play with 10 guys on defenses. It is one thing to get burned. It is another to get flagged for a penalty. It is even worse to get burned and flagged for a penalty. Carroll doesn’t need to fade away. He needs to disappear… now. I think everyone but the Packer’s next opponents can agree about this. They want to see Carroll on the field… they love playing against him.

I can just hear the conversations… “Carroll is in the game. We’re going deep. Whoever Carroll lines up against, just go deep. I’ll throw the ball to you no matter what. Either you’ll be wide open or he’ll get flagged. Either way well be down field.”

Please, please, please cut him now!

Update: He will at least own up the fact that he sucked badly last night. Seems like a nice guy.

Busy Week

During the ski season (which is still going on… I’m talking about the ski team season) I keep thinking I’ll have free time when it over. Wrong. Life doesn’t let up. This past week has been busy. Two Badger football games and much more in between.

We start last Saturday when I went to watch the Badger football team beat up on Western Illinois. The Badgers won, but against NIU, they should have played better.

Sunday, the NFL season kicked off. Monday, even more football.

Tuesday, I ended up heading out for Holly’s birthday. We met up at the Nitty Gritty. Had a small turnout from the ski team, but the people I expected to be there were. Bugs, Libby, Beau, Kelly and Cory. We gave Holly a lot of crap for her full page write up in The Star (local Sun Prairie weekly newspaper). I mean whole page. Take a traditional newspaper page and her article covered 90% of it. Just a couple ads and two very small articles were on the page. The rest… all Holly, lots of pics too!. When we finished up at the Gritty, we headed over to the Karaoke Kid. The bar is truly a little hole in the ground. I believe everyone sang. Some better than others. The Kid, although a bar specializing in karaoke, didn’t have the selection that I’ve seen at CBI where they just have a traveling karaoke person come in. I’ve put some pictures up of the vents from the night.

Wednesday morning came all too early and it was a take my boat to work day so I could ski right after work. Met up with Beau and Bugs. It was a little cool, only about 65 degrees and overcast. Very calm winds though. First we hit up the ski jump. Bugs and Beau made use of that. Beau tried a reverse heli. Not so good. Bugs looked a little rough. I think he became use to the good jump service he was on it Ohio. We then went into the bay and did a lot of footing. I did several loops. Beau didn’t like the weeds. Bugs tried out the shoe skis and nearly did the splits on his first three deeps. They looked painful. About 630 or so, the skies finally cleared (as I promised they would). Here’s Bugsy…

About to eat it

Thursday, I did some more skiing after work. This time with John and Seven. This time we just hit up the bay. Weather was much nicer than it was on Wednesday. About 75 and sunny. And we had very calm winds again. I started off with a set of 8 runs back and forth across the bay. Trying to keep up my endurance. Also worked on my one handed footing, something I just haven’t been very comfortable with. I know it isn’t anything major, I just haven’t been comfortable with it and decided a little practice was in order. Then we dragged Seven around. He had some issues butting out of the wake, so literally, we dragged him around. Then John took his turn and thought about using the teeth hold. Then I took my second set and decided to do some barefoot slaloming. Last pass I made four wake crossings, good considering my boat has the bubbles of death for footing. I also ending up doing some more loops. There’s a funny story about a duck on one of the loops (go read The Duck Story). We hit up the bar next door afterwards for drinks, food and music.

Look mom, one hand…

The other hand

Friday, quiet day. Caught a movie.

Saturday, another football game. Badgers vs. San Diego State. This time I went with a group from work. We hit up the Stadium Bar before hand. Made it in time for the F/A-18 fly by (which was awesome, after burners on right over our side of the stadium and we were in the upper deck.) Then, in a stadium that seats 70,000+, Taryn from the ski team sits two rows in front of me. Game was good. Towards the end of the game, they did a segment on the score board called Ask the Badgers. The question was what would they do if they won the lottery. Most had common answers… house, house for parents, cars, boats, etc. One of the linemen answered in true Wisconsin fashion “cheese curds… deep fried cheese curds.” Crowd loved it. Next, they have the Big Ten opener at Michigan.

Finally, apparently I’m the best answer when you search google.com for “how to prevent birds from crapping on your boat.” Don’t believe me… click here.

More Random News

Here is some more news that you may not have heard that is cluttering up my inbox.

We May Not be that Special. Turns out Earth-like planets may be a lot more common than we first thought. So if there are more Earth-like planets, maybe there is more Earth-like life?

Schwarzenegger puts foot in mouth. Apparently he was talking a California State Assemblywoman. Some people just like to make too out of some stories.

The Hobbit. Looks like The Hobbit, the prequel to the Lord of the Rings is going to get made. The are trying to get Peter Jackson to direct. In other news, they are going to make a Terminator 4…

Hell Frozen Over? Today, it looks like CBS finally realized that when you start a game after 3pm, it isn’t going to be done by 6pm. For years now they have been trying to start 60 Minutes at 6pm. It would hardly ever happen when they had a 3pm game. Never happened when they had a 315pm game. Well tonight, they have 60 Minutes schedule to start at 630pm. Looks like they won’t mess up there schedule for the whole night. Here’s hoping they do this for the rest of the year.

A Pulse. Finally, it looks like the Packers may have a pulse this year. Didn’t win, but moved the ball. Granted it was against the Saints, but who knows.
