There’s been some debate about what exactly is freestyle barefooting… while here’s AN answer. You see the Andre and Zane DeVilliers and Chris Morrison do some pretty sweet tricks, including hitting the ramp and doing more than your standard barefoot jumps. Nothing we haven’t see before, but it’s nice to see them try this stuff out on something less than perfect glass water. Granted they still had excellent conditions, but not the glass you see them do this stuff on all the time.
Well, I’m guessing the other hour and 23 minutes weren’t this funny, but the first 7 minutes were. In case you missed it, here is Tina Fey from SNL last night.
This is kinda of an uninspired video from BFC… not a whole lot new in this one, and there isn’t a lot of footing either. They go shopping for “cowboy” clothes and hats, do a little footing in what looks like just swim trunks and cowboy hats, but if you look closely, you can see barefoot shorts under their trunks. As usual, BFC has put together another video of really good footers doing some sick tricks on glass calm water. It’s almost starting to get old. But then about 2:30 in the video, they starting doing something interesting again. I wouldn’t quite call them front flips or back flips, but the footers do go inverted, kinda of like a cartwheel, but with no hands (after trying to find the term for that trick, I guess its called an aerial cartwheel). Then they start doing these over each other.
In summary, the first half is a little ho-hum with the sick tricks we’re becoming way too use to and then it gets interesting at the end. Now go watch the video…

Snowmobile? Yes, snowmobile. Don’t need a boat or even a jet ski. Just something that can move over the water.

Then, based on some dates, shortly after doing this, KSO went on to win his 9th Barefoot Nationals at the Blue Moo followed by Footstock in Crandon. He had a busy summer in Wisconsin.
This guy appears to be one of the godfathers of footing. It’s obviously some older footage (early 90s), but it is one hell of a video set to a great barefooting song. The dude can spin like a top. And barefooting in zebra print zubaz? Check out this video from GoFastFilms.com.

The guys in this video call it a handle pass, but I’ll keep call it a whip up. I mentioned this trick back in my review of Soul and I’ve found this video of some guys trying it out. The music is a bit harsh, but watch them try out this trick.
Not quite a jump trick and not quite a barefoot trick, but this falls squarely into both worlds. The Aberdeen Aqua Addicts invented this trick and Mad-City just did a version of it at Show Ski Nationals. Here’s the setup…
2 Footers, neither doing anything special, but they are wearing what show skiers call a strap. It’s a harness that allows the skier to be hooked directly to the boat and keep their hands free. But the footers aren’t using it like that. They have the strap on backwards with a rope hooked onto the back. That rope goes to a jumper who’s going to hit the ramp at barefooting speeds and do some sort of invert. If you do the math in your head, the barefooters are the pylons for the jumpers. Another BFC vdieo from South Africa featuring the DeViller brothers. Besides them doing some sick little tricks with both of them on the boom, one of them does a trick I haven’t seen before.
I’ve seen barefoot front flips before, but never have I seen with a twist. Luckily they slow it down so you can really see it.
These guys make this tricks look way too easy.

Tampa Bay’s Ski Team did this at the 2000 Nationals in Rockford, IL. To my knowledge, this is a record that still stands today. I don’t think I need to write anymore about this, I’ll let the video speak for itself.
